Kamloops Airport Announces Q2 Traveller Numbers
Kamloops Airport announces the traveler numbers for Q2 of 2020, as compared to the same period from the previous year.
2019 | 2020 | Change | |
Q2 Travelers- Total | 83,260 | 2,489 | -97.01% |
April | 28,299 | 493 | -98.39% |
May | 28,256 | 589 | -98.16% |
June | 26,705 | 1,407 | -95.31% |
As expected, passenger numbers in Q2 reflect the negative impacts of the global COVID-19 pandemic on the airline, aviation and tourism industries in Kamloops. Passenger numbers are slowly starting to recover domestically, with the increased services of WestJet and reintroduction of service by Air Canada and Central Mountain Air, However, as travel restrictions and quarantine requirements remain in effect for transborder and international destinations, recovery for those sectors will be much slower.
Passengers are reminded that wearing a mask is mandatory during security screening and during their flight. We also recommend that all persons entering the terminal wear a mask. Passengers will also have their temperature checked prior to boarding the aircraft.
To ensure appropriate physical distancing, we ask that only passengers enter the terminal facility. Hourly parking is currently free to encourage those dropping off or picking up passengers to remain outside the terminal or at their vehicles.
As recommended by the BC Center for Disease Control, Kamloops Airport Ltd. has introduced enhanced disinfecting of high touch surfaces, introduced signage to promote physical distancing and hand hygiene, and installed barriers to limit contact with personnel. We also encourage all passengers to complete their check-in online to limit the need for direct contact with airline personnel.
