2022 Q4 & Year-End Passenger Statistics
January 18, 2023
Kamloops Airport announces the 2022 Q4 and Year-End passenger statistics, as compared to the same period from the previous year.
2021 | 2022 | Change | |
Q4 Travelers | 58,490 | 76,673 | +31.1% |
October | 13,230 | 24,835 | +87.7% |
November | 17,475 | 25,770 | +47.7% |
December | 27,785 | 26,068 | -6.2% |
Year-End | 104,385 | 257,374 | +146.6% |
The significant increases experienced in Q4 can be attributed to the return of both business and leisure travel, as well as the lifting of all travel restrictions related to the pandemic. The slight drop in December traffic is a direct result of the wide-spread travel disruptions and cancellations due to weather and ongoing crew availability issues in the days leading up to Christmas.
In terms of pandemic recovery, Kamloops Airport served 83.7% of our record-setting 2019 Q4 pre-pandemic traffic, continuing the strong growth trends first experienced in Q3. Although challenges stemming from the pandemic remain for the aviation and tourism sectors, passenger growth is currently forecast to surpass pre-pandemic levels in early 2024 .
As health concerns regarding the transmission of flu and COVID-19 variants persist, Kamloops Airport is continuing its regimen of enhanced disinfecting of high touch surfaces throughout the passenger facilities. Guests are also welcome to continue to wear masks throughout their journey if they choose to do so.
